University of Bath (UoB) is a research led University, with 32% of the submitted research activity having achieved the highest possible REF classification of 4*, defined as world-leading in terms of originality, significance and rigour. 87% was graded 4*/3*, defined as world-leading/internationally excellent. Our overall grade point average (GPA) is 3.17. Based on these results, we are placed 12th in the research quality ranking of UK universities, excluding specialist institutions. Its students are in demand by employers. The Dept. of Electrical and Electronics Engineering was voted the best UK department of its type by more than 1,000 Heads of the most academically-successful state and independent schools. Training of the ESRs will be at the Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering, at the Invert centre, which is a lively and interactive group with diverse interests in GNSS and imaging. Invert has very strong links with UK industry, Europe and overseas institutions, offering outstanding research opportunities. The broad research interests of the Department, include collaborative projects involving Mathematics, Physics, Mechanical Engineering.
Expertise in GNSS and the ionosphere, ionospheric imaging, inverse problems. Familiar with ionospheric instruments such as NNSS, EISCAT, ionosondes. Close collaborations with Bath Institute for Complex Systems and with the Centre for Space, Atmospheres and Oceans staff. Growing expertise in LORAN technology. Facilities: GNSS scintillation receiver network in Scandinavia, Africa and Antarctic. LORAN receivers.
